BALEAP has maintained its fee levels for many years, making it as affordable as possible for all its members.
The Executive team has conducted a thorough review of the membership fee’s structure and has increased fee levels for Institutions and Associate members from 1st August 2024, whilst introducing new categories, dependent on institutions’ circumstances. Institutions vary significantly in staff and student numbers, so we thought it was important to offer more support to smaller-sized teams.
Below you will find details of fees applicable for 1st August 2024 to 31st July 2025. Descriptions of the various membership categories can be found below.

Institutional Membership
Institutional membership is available to departments in any university or equivalent institution of higher education which teaches EAP courses and has at least one full-time member of staff whose principal function involves the teaching of EAP. If employed in the same institution and department regardless of location, individuals in two locations will be covered by an institution’s membership.
What is a satellite centre?
A satellite institution would be delivering a BALEAP accredited course on behalf of an institution accredited by BALEAP for that course (the main centre). They would receive an accreditation visit but it may be a one day one as it is the same course and same delivery. The satellite should be a BALEAP member, paying an annual membership fee and the BAS visit costs; however, the main centre will pay the annual accreditation fee.
Example
A UK university runs their Pre-sessional course overseas, delivered by a trusted learning partner. The UK university has ownership of the academic governance of the course, and the students are registered as students of that university. Teaching on the course is delivered by the trusted learning partner, and by teachers employed directly by that partner.
Institution Single Site Small Centre
A small centre will be classified by low student numbers plus up to 6 FTE staff numbers. The membership fee will cost £350 and will cover full institutional membership benefits. The BAS accreditation costs will be the same as for other institutions.
Institutions with multiple sites
Please contact us for a quote and note that the following questions will be asked to help us agree a fee level. Thank you.
Institutional membership entitles you to :
The membership year runs from 1st August to 31st July.
For a list of current institutional members, see here. A map of currently accredited institutional members can be accessed here (links open in new tab).
* Following the Annual General Meeting each year, a reduced fee of £175 (or £120 for a single site small centre) will be charged for those wishing to join before year end; however, JEAP subscription would not be included for that short part-year.
To apply for membership, contact us and select “Membership”. You will then be sent the link to the Sign Up page.
The “sign up” fee you will see there is essentially the membership fee for the first year of your membership. This is due at the point of signing up. A renewal reminder is sent every year in July, when the fees for the next membership year are due.
When signing up for institutional membership, please choose a username that represents the institution, i.e. not the name of the current institutional rep and something more unique than “Language centre” or “Accounts payable”. This is because the username stays the same throughout your membership, even if the BALEAP contact within an institution changes.
During the process, you will be asked about the type of programmes you run, the number of students and teachers, how many staff members are BALEAP accredited and whether a course in your unit is currently accredited or interested in accreditation. Most of these questions are optional and you will have the opportunity to amend your answers. Providing this information will help BALEAP better understand and represent its members. Many thanks.
