What BALEAP Membership can do for you

BALEAP membership offers you easy access to a growing community of English for Academic Purposes and Academic Literacy practitioners, scholars and researchers from a variety of different contexts.

Discussion List

As an individual member, or a member of staff at an institutional member organisation, you can sign up to the discussion list. Here you can keep in touch with colleagues around the world and

  • raise topics of mutual concern
  • contribute to discussions
  • engage in informal consultancy or surveys
  • advertise events of interest to the EAP community
  • obtain advice about teaching, course design, materials, assessment, recruitment, professional development

This is probably the best and most efficient way of keeping in touch with a very large number of EAP practitioners. Many professionals, whether they are starting out in EAP or are experienced managers of EAP units, find this possibility of easy contact with people and ideas very reassuring.

The list does not allow corporate marketing.

BALEAP Events

Be the first to receive information about BALEAP events and other activities.

A regular highlight for BALEAP members are the one-day Professional Issues Meetings (PIMs), which usually take place three times a year on a wide variety of topics. Past PIMs have focused on The EAP Practitioner, Authenticity in EAP, Reading, Insessional EAP to name but a few – see here for presentations from past PIMs. Member institutions can apply to host a PIM with practical support from BALEAP.

There is a special member’s rate for attending many BALEAP events, including PIMs.

Individual Accreditation – the Teaching EAP (TEAP) Scheme

Members can participate in the TEAP portfolio scheme leading to TEAP Fellowship. While non-members can attend TEAP events, only members (individual or institutional) can apply for individual accreditation.

BALEAP Accreditation Scheme (BAS)

Member institutions can apply to become accredited institutions. BAS Assessors are also drawn from the membership.

Website

Member institutions can advertise jobs, EAP-related events and TEAP training courses on the BALEAP website.

Journal of English for Academic Purposes (JEAP)

Each institutional or individual member will receive a paper copy of the Journal of English for Academic Purposes (JEAP). For new members, this starts in January and then runs for the whole calendar year. More information about JEAP can be found at https://www.journals.elsevier.com/journal-of-english-for-academic-purposes.

AGM

Members are encouraged to attend the Annual General Meeting. Individual members and up to two delegates per institutional member may vote at the Annual General Meeting.
