The University of Bern is seeking a qualified and experienced EAP lecturer to teach a range of EAP and ESP courses, with a focus on the humanities and social sciences.
Working as a member of a small team, you will design and teach courses at CEFR levels B1-C2, including academic writing courses tailored to the needs of master and doctoral students.
As well as teaching, the successful candidate will be expected to provide individual consultations to students, to undertake administrative duties related to courses, such as the assessment of placement tests and setting up online help for students, and to attend team meetings.
This is a part-time post of 21 hours a week on campus (50% of a full-time appointment in Switzerland). The teaching load is 8-10 lessons (45 minutes/lesson) per week in a semester for a maternity cover. After the maternity cover, from 2018, there will be a great likelihood of a permanent contract of more than 60% including tailor-made courses.
Preference will be given to a native English speaker with an MA or PhD in Applied Linguistics, TESOL, or related fields. The post requires a minimum of 3 years of teaching experience at university level, including teaching EAP and/or ESP in the humanities and social sciences.
Salary in the range of CHF 45,000 – CHF 60,000, in accordance with the local government pay scale, with a minimum of 25 days of holidays per annum.

Swiss or EU citizenship is essential unless an applicant already holds a valid work permit for Switzerland. A good working knowledge of German is also necessary.
