Nazarbayev University’s Center for Preparatory Studies (CPS) is currently seeking proficient English language teachers to teach a “Leadership and Academic Skills” course in our academic preparatory Foundation Year Program (NUFYP). The course is designed to help young students mature and acquire academic English and personal study skills that will make them successful as undergraduate students. The position starts in January 2024.
NUFYP students learn academic English, mathematics, and take a personal Leadership/academic skills course. The students’ minimum entry level is an overall IELTS of 6.0. NUFYP’s EAP curriculum was reaccredited by BALEAP in 2024.

NUFYP teachers teach up to 18 student-contact hours per week (lectures, seminars, tutorials) plus mark assignments and give student feedback; teachers also contribute eight hours a week in a CPS working group.

The successful candidate must have the qualifications, personal integrity, and character required to teach young students in an undergraduate preparatory program. Minimally these include:
• A completed Master’s degree in an appropriate language discipline
• Desire to teach cooperatively to deliver a unified curriculum
• Ability to collaborate as a team member in a multicultural educational environment in Kazakhstan
• Evidence of a strong work ethic and exemplary professional and personal character
• Excellent communications skills and able to follow written and oral instructions
• A desire to contribute to Kazakhstani youth, CPS’s mission, and NU’s core values
