We are looking to fill two roles: a new Head of EAL, and a new Director of Studies (DOS) for our International Section.
Both vacancies arise as a result of some significant and very exciting developments. In September 2017, the international section (TIS) will move from its current home on St Giles to the Swan Building at 111/113 Banbury Road (currently used for Sixth Form teaching). A substantial refurbishment programme is planned for this summer which will include, among other things, the installation of two new science laboratories, an Art room, a space for drama and dance classes and new dining facilities for students and staff.
The following bullet points are not meant to be exhaustive but indicative of what the successful candidates will be expected to carry out in their roles.
Head of EAL:
• Having primary responsibility for the quality of teaching and learning in EAL throughout the school. The head of EAL will liaise with Heads of Department and subject leaders to ensure the English department is providing the right support to improve the performance of students in their other subjects.
• Devising the teaching programmes of the department.
• Overseeing and supporting the teaching of the EAL department and supervising the day-to-day work of other members of the department, including organising and attending departmental meetings and assisting the Deputy Principal (Academic) with staffing arrangements and assigning students to classes. The head of EAL will take a leading role in the induction and training of new members of staff.
• Running work scrutiny and standardisation sessions for marking to ensure all teachers are working to guidelines.
• Building up departmental materials and resources for English language teaching
• Marking tests to assess the levels of English of new and prospective students
• Choosing the appropriate public examinations for students to be entered for and submitting exam entries to the School’s exams office.
• Conducting oral examinations and standardising course work as required.
• Conducting Professional Development Reviews for members of your department.
• Preparing and submitting the Departmental Development Plan and Budget for your department and preparing/completing all departmental paperwork including schemes of work and reviews of examination results.
Director of Studies:
Liaising with the IT department with regard to matters impacting on teaching and learning in the International Section
Providing weekly staff update/list of notices of ‘what’s on’ to all staff at the International Section. Co-ordinating, and keeping staff informed of, key dates and any changes in the school calendar
Sharing a responsibility for the general academic, moral and physical welfare of the international students in Year 10i, 11i, Study Abroad and Sixth Form teaching programmes
Assisting the International Section Registrar and the Senior Registrar with arrangements for the onward placement of pupils, assisting with preparation of progress information for Sixth Form, prior to interviews
Building opportunities for whole school integration
Deputising for the Head of the International Section when required, welcoming visitors, agents and parents
• Supporting both experienced and less experienced teachers in the International Section and ensuring that students are being properly prepared for the most appropriate public examinations, according to age and key stage;
Assisting all subject teachers in the devising of teaching programmes
Taking responsibility for staff induction and on-going training support for new staff, and ensuring that staff have access to outside training and expertise as necessary
• Conducting and co-ordinating lesson observations in the International Section;
• Conducting performance management reviews as required;
Organising mock examinations, collating mock results and predicted grades, with responsibility for overseeing tracking data (CAT4) and reviewing overall results of IGCSE cohorts
Co-ordinating with the Exams Office for IGCSE examination enrolments & timetabling
• Organising and co-ordinating induction week for September, January and April start students;
• Assisting the Head of the International Section with preparations for the start of the academic year once public examinations results have been published in August
• For both of these senior posts, we are seeking an outstanding teacher to join us in this very successful 11-18 school.
