Background
Founded in 2020, Guangzhou-Dublin International College (GDIC) is a joint international college established in collaboration between University College Dublin (UCD) and South China Agricultural University (SCAU). It is located on the SCAU campus in Guangzhou.
GDIC has a position available for the role of Academic English Teacher beginning in late-August 2025. Teachers will be responsible for teaching small groups of science undergraduates English for Academic Purposes (EAP). This is an exciting opportunity to work in a global environment alongside an internationally-minded team of university educators.
Teachers are required to teach 256 hours per semester, normally sixteen hours of EAP to science undergraduates per week. There are two semesters per year, typically lasting for sixteen weeks per semester. The overall purpose of the EAP classes is to prepare students to study effectively in an English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) environment. The role specifically involves helping students to develop their academic writing and communication skills for undergraduate study, especially in response to their reading of academic articles and their note-taking from lectures. Teachers are expected to fulfil all scheduled teaching duties during the academic semester.
Additional Responsibilities:
• Teachers are required to assess students’ ongoing class work, give feedback on writing, grade final submissions, and assess presentation skills.
• Teachers are expected to formatively assess students and take a contingent approach to teaching and learning. This requires weekly planning meetings and designing tasks and lessons to meet the learning outcomes indicated in the syllabus.
• Teachers are required to attend weekly or fortnightly staff meetings and be open to formative classroom observation and appraisal from the programme coordinators.
• Teachers are expected to fulfil other duties as assigned, which may include: record keeping (attendance, summative assessment, continuous assessment) office hours, training sessions, compliance with official administrative regulations, etc.
