The MA in Academic Writing Development and Research, along with its associated PgDip and PgCert, will prepare professionals who want to specialise in the support of students and academic staff in writing for assessment or for professional publication. The programme is intended for those working in English-medium institutions or programmes, whether you work in wider contexts where English is a first or additional language. The Master’s and allied programmes will prepare you to help students and staff, whether L1 or L2 English users, write for assessment or for scholarly dissemination.
The Certificate in Academic Writing Development includes modules on teaching and supporting academic writing, supporting writing for professional publication, and writing centre management. It also includes a module that interrogates the dominance of English in scholarly dissemination.
The Master’s and Diploma in Academic Writing Development and Research additionally include modules on writing in the disciplines and research methodologies for investigating academic writing. On the Master’s programme, you will write a dissertation in which you can focus on issues appropriate to your own context.
With an optional four-day face-to-face session each term in Coventry, six online or blended modules, and a dissertation for the Master’s, this programme is ideal for professionals already working in writing support. The course is designed so that you do not have to leave your workplace to pursue your studies, but you can choose to attend the face-to-face sessions and work directly with your colleagues and the lecturers.
